Introduction:
Why violence? Because it works! Why Football violence, because I can work inside of it!
I cannot contain it. I can control it. I can wear it, its colour and I can make sure
that it stays close by me. Who am I? You don't know me, but I know you. I see you
every day, at work, on Street corners, in Pubs and Clubs. Yes I see you at the game
looking to join in, but you don't, do You? You stand there looking on, a spectator to
ugliness. Yes it is ugly, and it gets uglier. I have learned that my secret is owned
by so many. The Army uses it and gets away with it in foreign lands. Even the old bill
use it, though they don't admit to it. I see them, the Police, their skirmish lines
ready and waiting for us to kick off. Trouble is, we too readily oblige. Our fight
becomes their fight and the entangled are their prize. We allow them to mark their day
with arrests, statistics that justify their position amongst us. So before I go into the
detail of this story, let me warn those who continue to fight, they do the bidding of
those who earn well from our effort. And now I want to explain how the idea for this
Book came about. I had been away from the violence for some time, and wanted to construct
something that might take some of those I knew, away from the violence. I hoped I would
afford an insight into a world, thousands, literally thousands of Men, Lads and even Girls
are involved in.
